Ugh, I dread reviews but it's my own fault. I tend to write A LOT when it comes to reviews, especially bad reviews. It's not that this book was bad it's just that, it just was. No spark or anything. Just a book. Anyway, on to Delirium.

Delirium. Delirium. Delirium. I have seen this book for awhile and it never really sparked my interest, however, after completing Divergent and Insurgent, I think I was on a reading high, you know, after you've read a really good book you can't wait to get your hands on another one? Well, as I was saying, I had just got done with the Divergent series and couldn't really find anything else to read so I figured what the hey I'll try Delirium. I read the sample on my Nook and my interest was peaked and checked out ratings on Goodreads so I bought the book. However, I could not really get into the story.

It just seemed like the main character, Lena, was way too into her head or something. I don't know maybe it was all of the description that seemed to occur after every other spoken line in the book. I usually like when authors are descriptive but there is a fine line between being descriptive where I can see the author's world and characters and being overly descriptive where I'm losing track of things because you want to give me a paragraph on how the seagulls look. I think the author, Lauren Oliver, may have crossed that line quite a few times in this book. Which is weird because I don't really remember her being overly descriptive in her first book, Before I Fall.

Anyway, as I continued to read the book, I found my self getting very annoyed with the main character Lena. This girl is GRIPPED by fear and always wants to follow the rules but yet she has no problem flinging the f-word out there a couple of times. I don't know I was just getting really tired of her paranoia and wanted to yell at her, "Get some balls and get a grip woman!" I'm glad she finally loosened up when she met her love interest, Alex. Lena was much more enjoyable and she seemed more free after she met him. However, I still had a bone to pick with her. There is a scene where she is discussing some very sensitive information with her best friend Hana and all I could think the entire time while reading was IDIOT! First of all, Lena was way too trustworthy in this scene, which, yes Hana is her best friend, but sometimes there are things even your best friend shouldn't know and, two, I was able to figure out what would happen in the end of the book. Which is something I hate. If I can predict what will happen in the end, what's the point of finishing the book? Enough of Lena, let's talk about the love interest.

GOD IT TOOK FOREVER! Which I guess I can understand because of the whole issues with love in the Delirium world but it was like, "Come on when are they going to get together?!" I just found my self really impatient throughout the story and thought about putting it down several times to go re-read Divergent. Now, THAT is when you know there is a problem. If your book is good, and by good I mean great, and by great I mean MIND BLOWING I would NEVER put it down. Despite my itching to go back to the world of Divergent, I mustered on. The love interest Alex, not exactly swoon worthy. I mean he was nice and his hair was CONTINUOUSLY described like autumn leaves (another pet peeve of mind, using the same word(s) over and over. It's called a thesaurus...get one) but that's about it. There was nothing about him that made me fall in love with him which again is a problem for me. Pretty much any books I read, if written well, I fall in love with the love interest (Edward, Daniel, Four, etc.). I feel like me being in love with them helps me to understand the main characters love for them but, as I said, no love lost here. There was probably only one redeeming thing in this book and that was the ending. For the most part it happened like I suspected it would but there was one little twist with Alex that I did not expect and I literally gasp! All in all this book was okay, not horrible, not great, just okay. It's a decent enough read to pass the time until the next big YA series comes out or while you're waiting on the next installment of your current YA series. Usually I'm the type of person that tries to finish a series when started but I just can't bring myself to finish this one.

P.S. See what I mean by writing a lot!
