It has been a couple of days sense I read this book and I am still reeling from it! I had started reading another book series and contemplated putting it down so I could re-read Divergent!
I saw how people raved about Divergent when it was first hot on the scene but I kept putting off reading it because I was knee deep in two other book series but OMG! Forgive me if this is blasphemous but THIS IS GOD'S GIFT TO YA!
I loved the story, the characters, the Divergent world, everything! There were so many levels to the characters and every page you just dig deeper and deeper into them. The description Roth uses is just perfection. I could see everyone and everything in my head crystal clear. Sometimes authors have a tendency to either under describe or over describe and Roth finds a perfect balance. I just can't get over this book it's actually hard for me to write this review as I feel like I'm at a lost for words. There are no words I can use to describe this book to truly give it justice. It's much easier to give reviews for books I disliked than books I love lol!
The only thing I probably had an issue with was at one point when Tris finds out about the planned attack the first thing that popped into my head was, "Oh no this is just like Hunger Games! Can't we just focus on being in love and not having to go fight a war?!" But I had to remember this book's main purpose is not a love story or at least I feel that's not the main story. Divergent is much greater than a boy and girl falling in love. Once I gave myself this little check my issue with this book dissolved away and I happily floated through the rest of the story. Divergent has earned a permanent place on my bookshelves.
Overall, in case you can't tell, I would HIGHLY recommend Divergent! I don't even think you can truly call yourself a YA fan if you don't read it. To not read this book would be a great disservice to yourself. So go out there! Devour it in a day then pick up Insurgent (the sequel) and repeat!
P.S. Four is to DIE for! He is soo dreamy. I would jump off a building for him any day!
